Ahualoa Information Update for November 25th, 2019

Critical Two-Vehicle Accident leads to the temporary closure of Highway 19 in Ahualoa Monday morning (November 25th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are on scene of a critical two-vehicle (head-on type) accident that occurred on Highway 19 in Ahualoa Monday morning (November 25th).

The initial call came in at 5:57 am Monday morning and HFD crews from the Honoka'a and Waimea Fire Station along with and HPD officers from the Hamakua Patrol responded to the scene located on Highway 19 just east of Camp Honokaia (Boy Scout Camp).

Preliminary details that the HIRSC team has received were two vehicles (pickup truck and a sedan) collided head-on in the area just east of Camp Honokaia. One of the vehicles had overturned as a result of the collision and multiple people were reported injured, one of which was reported to be extremely critical, as a result of the collision. Details are very limited and will provide an update as it becomes available.

Currently, at this time, Highway 19 is closed between Lakeland Subdivision and Honoka'a. Local traffic can use the alternate route through Old Māmalahoa Hwy - Ahualoa. All large trucks and buses must use Daniel K. Inouye Hwy (or Saddle Road) as an alternate route.

Highway 19 in Ahualoa expected to be closed for the next 4-5 hours while HPD officers from the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) conduct their investigation into the crash.
