Captain Cook Information Update for July 10th, 2020

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to report of single vehicle collision involved a equipment and trailer overturned in Captain Cook Friday afternoon (July 10th).


The initial call came in before 4:30 pm and HPD officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at the intersection of Highway 11 (Mamalahoa Highway) and Napo’opo’o Road/Ali’i Drive in Captain Cook.

Upon the arrival of HPD officers, reports came of a dump truck towing a trailer with equipment on board traveling through the intersection had overturned and blocking the northbound lanes of Napo’opo’o Road and one lane of southbound lanes of traffic on Mamalahoa Hwy. No injuries were reported.


Once HPD officers arrived at the scene, operator of the dump truck had contact tow crews for assistance in clearing the overturned trailer and equipment from the roadway. HPD officers assisted in directing traffic at the intersection until crews could arrived at the scene to upright and remove the trailer and equipment.


The intersection was cleared and all lanes of traffic was reopened just after 6:30 pm.
