Earthquake Information Statement # 2 for March 24th, 2020
Notice Level: Non-Urgent (Information Statement Requested)
No Tsunami Threat to the Island of Hawaii following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Kuril Islands, Russia Tuesday afternoon (March 24th). The Tsunami Watch for the Island of Hawaii has since been canceled. Again, No Tsunami Threat.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 7.8 (Moment, later downgraded to 7.5) earthquake has occurred in the region of Kuril Islands, Russia at 4:59 pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST) Tuesday afternoon.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has reviewed all data received for this event and reports that there NO TSUNAMI THREAT to the Island and the State of Hawai'i. Again, NO TSUNAMI THREAT.
The initial Tsunami Watch that was in effect for the Island of Hawaii has since been canceled.
