Earthquake Information Statement for January 18th, 2020

No Tsunami Threat to Hawaii Island following a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in the area of Abepura, Indonesia on Saturday morning (January 18th).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 6.0 earthquake had occurred in the region of Abepura, Indonesia at 6:38 am Hawaii Standard Time (HST) on Saturday morning (January 18th).


Based on all assessments completed by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) in Palmer, Alaska: There is NO TSUNAMI THREAT to the Island and the State of Hawaii. Again, NO TSUNAMI THREAT.

This will be the only information statement for this event, unless further data is received.
