Earthquake Information Statement for March 20th, 2021
No Tsunami Threat to the Island of Hawaii following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in the region of Ishinomaki, Japan late Friday evening (March 19th).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 7.0 (initially 7.2, later downgraded to a 7.0) earthquake occurred in the region of Ishinomaki, Japan at 11:09 pm Friday evening (March 19th) Hawaii Standard Time (HST) at a depth of 34-miles.
Based on all assessments completed by the United States Tsunami Warning Center (USTWC), National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC), and Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO THE ISLAND AND STATE OF HAWAI'I, AGAIN NO TSUNAMI THREAT.
This will be the only message for this event unless further data is received.
