Earthquake Information Update for January 7th, 2020

No Tsunami Threat to Hawaii Island following a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in the area of Kimbe, Papa New Guinea on Tuesday morning (January 7th).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 6.0 earthquake had occurred in the region of Kimbe, Papa New Guinea at 9:11 am Hawaii Standard Time (HST) on Tuesday morning (January 7th).
Based on all assessments completed by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) in Palmer, Alaska: There is NO TSUNAMI THREAT to the Island and the State of Hawaii. Again, NO TSUNAMI THREAT.
This will be the only information statement for this event, unless further data is received.
