Earthquake Information Update for January 8th, 2020

No Tsunami Threat to Hawaii Island following a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in the area of Chukotskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug, Russia on Wednesday evening (January 8th).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 6.3 earthquake had occurred in the inland region of Chukotskiy Avtonomnyy Okrug, Russia at 10:38 pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST) on Wednesday evening (January 8th).


Based on all assessments completed by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) and National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) in Palmer, Alaska: There is NO TSUNAMI THREAT to the Island and the State of Hawaii. Again, NO TSUNAMI THREAT.

This will be the only information statement for this event unless further data is received.
