Earthquake Information Update for July 21st, 2020
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) assessment still being completed following a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in the region of Perryville, Alaska Tuesday evening (July 21st).

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 7.8 (Initially a 7.4 moment later upgraded to a 7.8 magnitude) earthquake that occurred in the region of Perryville, Alaska at 8:13 pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST) Tuesday evening (July 21st).
Assessments are still being completed by the United States Tsunami Warning Centers (USTWC) and Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) at this time and will provide an update as more information becomes available.

AN EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED WITH THESE PRELIMINARY PARAMETERS ORIGIN TIME - 0813 PM HST 21 JUL 2020 COORDINATES - 55.2 NORTH 158.6 WEST LOCATION - ALASKA PENINSULA MAGNITUDE - 7.4 MOMENT EVALUATION A TSUNAMI THREAT EXISTS FOR PARTS OF THE PACIFIC LOCATED CLOSER TO THE EARTHQUAKE. BUT IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO DETERMINE WHETHER THERE IS A POSSIBLE TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII. IF THERE IS A TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII... THE EARLIEST ESTIMATED TIME THE HAZARD MIGHT BEGIN IS 1249 AM HST WED 22 JUL 2020 FURTHER STATEMENTS WILL BE ISSUED HOURLY OR SOONER AS THE SITUATION DEVELOPS.
