Earthquake Information Update for May 14th, 2019

No Tsunami Threat for Hawai'i following a 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake in Papua New Guinea

United States Geological Survey (USGS) reports that a 7.7 (moment), later downgraded to a 7.5 magnitude earthquake had occurred in the region of Kokopo, Papua New Guinea at 02:58 am Hawaii Standard Time (HST) Tuesday Morning (May 14th).

Based on all assessments completed by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) for this earthquake, there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO THE ISLAND AND THE STATE OF HAWAI'I, again there is NO TSUNAMI THREAT FOR Hawai'i.

This will be the only statement for this event unless further data is received warranting another update.
