A Flood Advisory has been extended for the East Hawaii Districts of Hāmākua, North Hilo, South Hilo, and Puna through Sunday evening (March 7th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the * Flood Advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 1130 PM HST. * At 813 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the Hilo and Puna districtsof the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Keaau, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, Mountain View, Glenwood, Pahoa, Papaikou, Volcano, Pepeekeo, Honomu, Hakalau, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Ookala, Kurtistown and Fern Acres. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1130 PM HST if flooding persists.
