East Hawaii Flood Advisory for February 28th, 2021

A Flood Advisory for the East Hawaii Districts of North Hilo, South Hilo, and Puna has been issued through late Sunday evening (February 28th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 1145 PM HST.

* At 838 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain falling over along the
  Hamakua coast,and the Hilo and Puna districts of the Big Island.
  Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honokaa, Mountain View, Papaikou,
  Keaau, Glenwood, Pepeekeo, Hawaiian Acres, Honomu, Orchidland
  Estates, Volcano, Hakalau, Ninole, Pahoa, Laupahoehoe, Hawaii
  Volcanoes National Park, Ookala and Paauilo.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 1145 PM HST if flooding
persists.
