East Hawaii Flood Advisory for February 5th, 2021

A Flood Advisory has been posted for the East Hawaii districts of South Hilo and Puna until Friday evening (February 5th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 545 PM HST.

* At 239 PM HST, radar indicated strong thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain over portions of windward Big Island. Rain was falling
  at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with the storms moving toward
  the east and southeast near 10 mph.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates,
  Mountain View, Keaau, Glenwood, Pahoa, Volcano, Hawaii Volcanoes
  National Park, Fern Acres, Kurtistown, Eden Roc, Ainaloa, Fern
  Forest, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale Estates, and Leilani Estates.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 545 PM HST if flooding
persists.
