East Hawaii Flood Advisory for March 1st, 2020

Notice Level: Urgent (Weather Update Needed)


Flood Advisory has been issued for the districts of Hamakua, North and South Hilo, and Puna until 4:45 pm Sunday afternoon. A rainfall rate of 1-2 inches per hour has been recorded in some areas. (Please see the post for further details).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 445 PM HST. * At 152 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain near Honokaa. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Hilo, Paauilo, Waipio Valley, Hawi, Pepeekeo, Keaau, Kamuela, Honokaa, Orchidland Estates, Ookala, Hawaiian Paradise Park and Pahoa. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 445 PM HST if heavy rain persists.

 

No reports of Road or Lane Closures have been reported by the State of Hawai'i Department of Transportation and also from the Hawaii Police Department.
