East Hawaii Flood Advisory for March 7th, 2021

A Flood Advisory has been issued for the East Hawaii Districts of South Hilo and Puna through Sunday evening (March 7th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 830 PM HST.

* At 522 PM HST, radar indicated slow-moving heavy showers over
  portions of windward Big Island, including Hilo town, with rain
  falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Keaau, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland
  Estates, Nanawale Estates, Mountain View, Glenwood, Pahoa,
  Ainaloa, Laupahoehoe, Ookala, Kurtistown and Fern Acres.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 830 PM HST if flooding
persists.
