A Flood Advisory for the districts of South Hilo and Puna is now in effect until 8:45 pm Tuesday evening (October 29th).
Moderate to Heavy Rainfall have been reported in the Waiakea, Panaewa, Kea’au, Hawaiian Paradise Park, and Kapoho areas. With rainfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour.
No Road Closures or Traffic Hazards have been reported at this time And may happen without notice.

The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 845 PM HST. * At 542 PM HST, radar indicated heavy showers and thunderstorms across the South Hilo and Puna Districts, with rain falling at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heavy rainfall will persist into the evening. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Hilo, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Glenwood, Keaau, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Pahoa, Mountain View, Volcano, Wainaku, Fern Forest and Hawaiian Beaches. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 845 PM HST if heavy rain persists.
