East Hawaii Flood Advisory Update # 2 for March 8th, 2021

A Flood Advisory for the East Hawaii Districts of Hāmākua, North and South Hilo, and Puna has been now been extended until early Tuesday morning (March 9th).

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* Flood Advisory for...
  The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 115 AM HST.

* At 959 PM HST, radar indicated moderate to locally heavy rain over windward Big Island with rainfall rates of around 1 inch per hour in the heaviest showers. The heaviest rain continues to fall in and around Hilo. Minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage
areas can be expected.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
  Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honokaa, Mountain View, Keaau,
  Glenwood, Hawaiian Acres, Papaikou, Orchidland Estates, 
  Pepeekeo, Volcano, Honomu, Hakalau, Pahoa, Ninole, Hawaii 
  Volcanoes National Park, Laupahoehoe, Ookala and Paauilo.


Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don`t drown.

A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.


This advisory may need to be extended beyond 115 AM HST if flooding persists.
