Hamakua Information Update for October 11th, 2019
A 69-year-old man has died following a tractor accident in Pa'auilo Mauka on October 8th.

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a tractor accident in Pa'auilo Mauka, Hamakua on Tuesday afternoon (October 8th).
The initial call came in at 4:27 pm Tuesday afternoon and crews from the Honoka'a Fire Station responded to the scene located at the 44-2000 block of Ka'apahu Road in Pa'auilo Mauka.
Upon the arrival of HFD crews, the reporting party reported a 69-year-old man, the operator of the tractor, was pinned by the tractor after an apparent rollover accident that occurred. The 69-year-old was also reported to be unresponsive.
Once on HFD crews arrived on scene, they immediately work to extricate the male victim pinned under the tractor. HFD crews utilized the Jaws of Life and lift bags (or airbags) to extricate the victim. Once the victim was extricated, HFD Medics later declared male dead on arrival (DOA) and turned the scene over to HPD for further investigation.
HPD continues to investigate the incident and has not released the identity of the victim in this incident, pending notification of next of kin.
