Hamakua Traffic Advisory for February 19th, 2020

Guardrail and Shoulder improvements will result in a 24-hour single lane closure that will start on Wednesday morning (February 19th) at the Kaumoali Bridge near Pa'auilo, Hamakua.

Temporary traffic signals will be in use during the duration of the project.

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises the public of upcoming safety improvements along Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) on the Hamakua Coast.

Beginning Wednesday, February 19th, there will be a 24-hour single lane closure in both directions at the Kaumoali Bridge located between Hawaii Belt Road (Route 19) and Government Main Road, for guardrail and shoulder improvements. During the work, traffic will be directed by temporary traffic signals.

Upon completion of the project at the Kaumoali Bridge, work will progress to the Waipunahina Bridge located on Hauola Road, and finally to the Kalopa Bridge on Hawaii Belt Road. Areas with limited space will require single-lane closures to ensure the safety of work personnel.

The work schedule for the improvements is being finalized. Motorists should be advised that each project site will maintain a 24-hour single lane closure. Work at all three bridges is anticipated to be completed by fall 2020, weather permitting.
