Hawaii Island Flood Advisory for November 19th, 2019

Notice Level: Urgent


A Flood Advisory has been issued for the following districts: North and South Kohala Districts, South Kona, and Hamakua until 5:00 pm this evening.


Heavy rain was reported in the Pa'auilo area and rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. Thunderstorms have also been reported in Waimea, Waiki'i, and Honaunau area. No road closures to report at this time and could happen without notice.


A Flash Flood Watch is also still in effect until 6:00 pm this evening.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a * Flood advisory for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 500 PM HST. * At 156 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain near Paauilo. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 to 3 inches per hour. * Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to... Kailua-Kona, Paauilo, Waipio Valley, Hawi, Pepeekeo, Honaunau, Kamuela, Kawaihae, Honokaa, Kealakekua, Ookala and Kapaau. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown. && This advisory may need to be extended beyond 500 PM HST if heavy rain persists. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect for the state of Hawaii until 6 PM HST.
