A Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Fire Equipment Operator (FEO) dies in the Line of Duty following an on-scene medical emergency on the evening of Saturday, August 8th, 2020.
The United States Fire Administration (USFA) announced on Wednesday morning (August 12th) that Fire Equipment Operator Eric Hayashi suffered a fatal heart attack on the evening of August 8th, 2020 while assisting at a medical run at a residence.
Hayashi was immediately transported to the Hilo Medical Center by HFD Medics in extremely critical condition, however, the pronouncement of death was made shortly after arriving at the Hilo Medical Center.
Hayashi was 49-years-old and a 25-year veteran with HFD and last assigned to the Laupahoehoe Fire Station (Station 17).
