Hawaii Island Information Update for July 31st, 2019
County of Hawaii Civil Defense and National Weather Service (NWS) provides an update on closures and advisories in effect for Hawaii Island

Weather Watches/Advisories/Warnings
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Hawaii Island that will go into effect at 12:00 pm Thursday afternoon and remain in effect until Saturday morning. NWS also noted that it may be extended should conditions linger beyond Saturday. The highest threat for flash flooding will occur along the southeast and east facing slopes of Hawaii Island.
Also in effect is a High Surf Warning for all North and East Facing Shores of Hawaii Island until 6pm Thursday night. A swell generated by Hurricane Erick will bring increasing surf to east facing shores of the Big Island overnight. Expect surf to rise overnight exceeding advisory levels by daybreak, with warning level surf expected through the day.
County & State Public Facilities Closures and Operation Changes
The Department of Parks and Recreation reports the following parks are closed and permits have been canceled through this weekend:
Whittington Beach Park
Punalu'u Beach Parks
The Bayfront Parking lot will be closed Thursday morning, August 1, until further notice.
The Hele-On buses will pick-up passengers behind the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Please park between the Butler Buildings and Wong Stadium.
Road Closures
South Point Road will be closed at 3:00 pm today. Only residents of South Point Road will have access until further notice.
