Hawaii Island Information Update for May 16th, 2021

Construction on a new Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Ambulance begins in Chehalis, Washington.

Construction on a new Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) Ambulance at the Braun Northwest Inc. plant in Chehalis, Washington has begun to take shape.


Production on this ambulance is expected to take approximately 3 months to complete and arrive on the island sometime in Mid-August and be hitting the streets in September 2021. This ambulance is expected to be stationed at the South Kohala Fire Station, replacing an older model Dodge Ram 4x2 Medic currently in service.

Here are some specifications on the medic in production:

  • Type I Ambulance - 147" Module

  • Mounted 2021 (1) Ford F350 4x4 Diesel Chassis

  • Whelen LED Emergency Lighting

  • Whelen Howler Siren

  • Dual Air Conditioning System w/ external mounted condenser unit

  • Enhanced Security Features

  • Enhanced Safety Systems have been installed such as EKG Mount and Digital Narcotics Lockbox.
