Hawaii Island Summit Advisory for February 8th, 2021
A Winter Weather Advisory for the summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa on Hawaii Island is now in effect until Tuesday evening (February 9th) ahead of a weak but fast-moving cold front approaches the island.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST TUESDAY...
* WHAT...Freezing rain and snow. Snow accumulations up to one
inch on Haleakala, and up to 3 inches on the Big Island Summits.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
* WHERE...Haleakala Summit and Big Island Summits.
* WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Tuesday.
* IMPACTS...Icy roadways will make for very dangerous driving
conditions, potentially leading to the closure of roadways
leading to the Summits of Haleakala and Mauna Kea.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Patchy areas of black ice are expected.
Avoid travel to the Summits.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while
driving.
