A Winter Weather Advisory for the Island of Hawaii summits of Maunakea and Maunaloa will go into effect Saturday morning (March 13th).

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM HST
SATURDAY...
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two
inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
* WHERE...Big Island Summits.
* WHEN...From 6 AM to 6 PM HST Saturday.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions and poor visibility.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while
driving.

The access road to the summit of Maunakea is closed to the public at the Visitor Information Station at the 9,200-foot elevation due to snow and icy road conditions, high humidity, and high winds. Rangers will continue to monitor road and weather conditions and this message will be updated as conditions change.
