Hawaii Island Traffic Incidents Update for December 4th, 2019

Emergency crews responded to a total of 24 traffic collisions on Hawaii Island on Monday, December 2nd.


Of the 24 incidents, the Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) was dispatched to 5 and rest were handled by the Hawaii Police Department (HPD). All 24 of these incidents were minor and non-injury accidents.


No major incidents were reported on Hawaii Island on Monday.

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a total of 24 different traffic collisions around Hawaii Island on Monday, December 2nd, 2019.


All the incidents that occurred on Hawaii Island were non-injury or minor accidents. No major incidents were reported.

Notable Incidents to Highlight:


  • 7:21 pm Monday evening, the Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident on Palani Road near Konalani Street in Kailua-Kona. Emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found a Toyota SUV in the Northbound shoulder and determined no injuries at the scene and awaited the arrival of a tow truck. HPD temporarily closed the Northbound (Waimea bound) lane of Palani Road for 45 minutes until a tow truck arrived on the scene to remove the vehicle from the Northbound shoulder.


Incidents that affected traffic on Hawaii Island:


  • Malfunctioning traffic light (Flashing Red) at the intersection of Hale Maka'i Place and Queen Kaahumanu Highway resulted in traffic delays of approximately 15-20 minutes in both directions. The issue was corrected shortly before 3:30 pm Monday afternoon. Reports came in that traffic was backed up past Makala Boulevard heading north on Queen Kaahumanu Highway.
