Hawaii Island Weather Update for January 5th, 2020
Notice Level: Advisory (Information Update Needed)
Wind Advisory for parts of Hawaii Island (Saddle region of Hawaii Island, districts of North and South Kohala, the summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa, and South Hawaii) until 6:00 pm Tuesday evening (January 7th).
A high surf advisory is also in effect for North and East facing shores of Hawaii Island until Friday evening (January 10th). Also directly related to windy conditions. Surf of 6 to 8-feet expected, with it building 7 to 10-feet on Tuesday.

A rather breezy to locally windy trade wind weather pattern is in store for this week due to high-pressure north of the area. Moisture embedded in the trades will provide for passing windward and mauka showers over the next few days with the trades sufficiently strong enough to blow some brief passing showers over to leeward areas at times. A wetter trade wind pattern is setting up for the second half of the week as an upper low move over the area from the east.
Strong trade winds near and upstream of the islands will produce increasingly large and rough surf along east facing shores.
The strongest gust was recorded at South Point at 35 mph at the lower elevations and gust of 39 mph recorded at Maunakea.
No power or other utility outages to report at this time. No road or lane closures related to the windy conditions were reported as of 8:15 pm Sunday evening.
