Hawaii Island Weather Update for June 24th, 2020

The HIRSC Weather Team is currently tracking 3 disturbances in the Eastern Pacific.
However, HIRSC Weather Team is closely monitoring Tropical Depression Three-E, which approximately 1,495 miles East-Southeast of Hilo and moving to the West-Northwest at 9 mph. Expected to become Tropical Storm Boris within the next 48 hours. Still too early to tell the impacts on the weather on Hawaii Island.
The next full HIRSC update on all systems will be made tomorrow evening (Thursday, June 25th).

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK

At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Three-E
was located near latitude 10.6 North, longitude 134.7 West. The
depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15
km/h). A west-northwest to northwest motion is expected during the
next two to three days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and
the depression is forecast to become a tropical storm tonight or
on Thursday.
The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb (29.74 inches).

For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude:
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical
Depression Three-E, located about 1800 miles southwest of the
southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.
1. An elongated area of low pressure located several hundred miles
southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula is
producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development, if
any, of this system is likely to be slow while the system moves
generally westward at about 10 to 15 mph.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent.
2. Disorganized showers and thunderstorms located a few hundred miles
south of the southwestern coast of Mexico are associated with a
broad area of low pressure. Environmental conditions are forecast
to be conducive for development, and the system is likely to become
a tropical depression within the next couple of days while it moves
west-northwestward parallel to the coast of Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...high...70 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.
3. Another area of low pressure is forecast to form south of the Gulf
of Tehuantepec by late this week. Gradual development of this system
is possible over the weekend as it moves west-northwestward parallel
to the coast of Mexico.
