Hawaii Island Weather Update for June 25th, 2020

HIRSC Weather Team continues to closely monitor Tropical Storm Boris continues to churn in the Eastern Pacific and slowly dissipates, as it's expected to cross over into the Central Pacific Friday, June 26th as Tropical Depression. No impact on weather on Hawaii Island is expected from Boris.


2 other areas of interest off the western coast of Mexico have a slight chance of becoming organized in the next few days. HIRSC Weather Team will continue to monitor these systems as we are at the start of 2020 Hurricane Season.


The next full HIRSC update on all systems will be made tomorrow evening (Friday, June 26th).

DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Boris was
located near latitude 11.4 North, longitude 137.9 West.  Boris is
moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h) and this
motion is expected to continue through Friday afternoon.  A turn 
toward the west is forecast by Friday night, with a west or 
west-southwest motion continuing through Saturday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts.
Little change in strength is expected tonight.  After that, Boris is
forecast to weaken back to a depression on Friday or Friday night, 
and degenerate into a remnant low by Saturday night.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches).

For the eastern North Pacific...east of 140 degrees west longitude:

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on recently 
upgraded Tropical Storm Boris, located about 2000 miles 
west-southwest of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.

1. Showers and thunderstorms associated with a broad area of low 
pressure located a few hundred miles south of the southwestern coast 
of Mexico remain disorganized.  Environmental conditions are 
forecast to be conducive for some development, and the system could 
become a tropical depression within the next couple of days while 
it moves west-northwestward parallel to the coast of Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

2. A large area of disturbed weather is located south of the Gulf of 
Tehuantepec.  Gradual development of this system is possible 
over the next several days while it moves west-northwestward 
parallel to the coast of Mexico.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.
