The previously announced dusk to dawn closure of Runway 8/26 at Hilo Airport (ITO) has ended.
The electrical issue with the runway lights on 8/26 has since been corrected/repaired.
Previous update released on Saturday, June 12th, 2021:
Hilo Airport runway 8/26 closed between dusk and dawn.
Until further notice, Runway 8/26 at Hilo Airport (ITO) will be closed between dusk and dawn. Runway 3/21 is available but travelers with flights scheduled to or from ITO in the evening hours should check with their airlines for possible changes.
According to HIRSC - Moderator, who is also a pilot, and also according to NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) Bulletin for Hilo International Airport reports that the runway lights on Runways 8/26 (main runway) are currently out of commission/inoperable at this time and must use Runways 3/21 during the evening hours.
No timeline was given by HDOT officials when the runway lights will be back online.
We will provide updates on this ongoing situation as they become available.
