Hilo Information Update # 2 for July 29th, 2019
Stove Fire causes damage to a home in Wainaku Monday Morning (July 29th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to report of a possible structure fire on Amauulu Road in Wainaku Monday morning (July 29th).
The initial call came in at 7:41 am and crews from Central, Waiakea, Kawailani, and Kaumana Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 responded to the scene located at 15 Amauulu Road in Wainaku.
Upon the arrival of HFD crews, occupant in the residences at the time of incident had evacuated after being alerted by smoke detector in residences. Neighbors also reported heavy smoke was coming from the residences and was visible to first arriving HFD crews.
Once HFD crews were on scene, saw heavy smoke coming from the two-story structure (160 sq. ft in size) and immediately made entry into the structure and extinguished the flames, which was confined to the stove and kitchen area; located on the bottom floor of the residences. HFD crews had the fire out at 7:58 am and crews continued with mop-up and salvaging operations.
HFD crews also were able to located and rescue a pet dog that found inside of the residences as well. The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage and no injuries or other properties were damaged as result of the fire.
