Hilo Information Update for August 6th, 2020

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) provides an update on the Pāpa'ikou traffic fatality that occurred on August 1st.

Hawaiʻi Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit, Area I Sergeant Jeremy Riddle Phone: 961-2391 Report No. 20-058069 An update is being provided on the cause of death of 63-year-old Jane Lawrence of Laupāhoehoe who was pronounced dead on August 1st following a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 19 in the area of the 8 mile-marker in Pāpaʻikou.

The results of an autopsy determined that the victim died of natural causes that were unrelated to the injuries sustained in the traffic crash.

As a result, this crash will not be counted as a traffic-related casualty.

The traffic fatality total for the calendar year 2020 remains at 12 compared to 13 at this time last year.
