Structure fire in Kawailani keeps HFD crews busy Sunday evening (December 15th).
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are on scene of a confirmed residential structure fire in Kawailani, South Hilo that occurred Sunday evening (December 15th).
The initial call came in 8:22 pm Sunday evening and HFD crews from the Haihai, Waiakea, Kaumana, and Central Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to the scene located at the 300 block of Kehaulani Street in Kawailani.
Upon the arrival of HFD crews, neighbors reported the residence (described as a two-story structure) was reported to be fully engulfed with smoke and flames coming from all sides of the structure. Flames were also visible from 3 blocks away. Neighbors also reported the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.
Once HFD crews arrived on scene, they found the structure fully involved and worked to gain control of the fire.
