Preliminary details we have received is that a nearby business reported large amounts of water flowing from a two-story commercial/apartment building located on the mauka (mountainside) of Kilauea Avenue with heavy smoke coming from a second-story apartment window, with occupants evacuating the structure prior to the arrival of emergency crews.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HPD Officers assisted with completing evacuation efforts while HFD Crews went into both an offensive and defensive firefighting mode to gain control of the fire.
Currently, at this time, the fire is under control with HFD crews beginning overhaul and salvage operations underway, which appears to be contained to the second story of the structure with heavy water damage to the first-floor units. It's unknown at this time if nearby businesses and structures suffered damage as a result of the fire.
