Hilo Information Update for February 1st, 2020
Fire damages a residence in the Sunrise Estates subdivision early Saturday morning (February 1st).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to report of a structure fire in the Sunrise Estates subdivision in Hilo early Saturday morning (February 1st).
The initial call came in at 1:30 am and HFD crews from the Central, Kaumana, and Haihai Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to scene located at the 700 block of La Hou Street in the Sunrise Estates subdivision in South Hilo.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, neighbors reported heavy smoke coming from the windows of the residence (being described as a single-story family dwelling) and upon further investigation later determined the interior of the structure was fully engulfed. The residence appeared to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.
As of 1:50 am Saturday morning, HFD crews had the structure fire under control and were still on scene completing salvage and overhaul operations.
