Woman taken to the hospital following a fall from Rainbow Falls Friday afternoon
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to river rescue incident at Rainbow Falls Friday afternoon (June 7th).
The initial call came in at 1:47 pm and crews from the Kaumana, Kawailani, and Waiakea (Rescue Company 2) along with Battalion 1 and Chopper 1 responded to scene located at the Rainbow Falls Lookout.
Upon the arrival of HFD crews, witnesses reported a female party, who at the time was trying to cross the river above the falls and had apparently went over falls and fell into the pond below Rainbow Falls. Victim was able to swim the northern bank of the pond below the falls, where she awaited the arrival of HFD rescue crews.
Once HFD crews arrived on scene, they located the female victim on the northern bank and deployed 2 rescue specialist to the female's location and later extricated her from the northern bank to the lookout via Chopper 1 using a rescue litter basket.
HFD Medics evaluated the female victim (described to be in her 20's) and later transported to the Hilo Medical Center in serious but in stable condition.
