The Hawai'i Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawai'i Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of an auto vs pedestrian collision in Hilo on Wednesday morning (May 11th).
The initial call came in at 7:59 am Wednesday morning and HFD Crews from the Central Fire Station along with HPD Officers from the Hilo Patrol and Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) responded to the scene located on Hualalai Street fronting St. Joseph's School in Hilo.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from numerous parties reporting a vehicle struck a pedestrian (described as a female in her 60s) on Hualalai Street fronting St. Joseph's School. Immediately following the collision, bystanders immediately provided basic medical care to the female patient until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medic immediately took over medical care of the female patient and shortly thereafter transported the patient to the Hilo Medical Center with her condition listed as critical at the time of transport.
Due to the patient's condition, HPD temporarily closed Hualalai Street between Kino'ole Street and Ululani Street in Hilo while HPD TEU Officers conducted an on-scene investigation into the collision.
