The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Manono Street in Hilo Monday evening (November 2nd).

The initial call came in at 6:40 pm Monday evening and HFD crews from the Waiakea and Haihai Fire Stations along with HPD Officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to the scene located at the intersection of Manono Street and Leilani Street in Hilo.

Upon the arrival of emergency crews, HPD officers were in pursuit of a vehicle (described as a White Isuzu SUV) on Kanoelehua Avenue and later turned onto a few side streets. In the course of the pursuit, the pursuit vehicle had collided with another vehicle (described as an older model Toyota Tercel) near the intersection of Leilani Street and Manono Street. Following the collision, both occupants (described as a male and female) of the pursuit vehicle bailed out and had fled the scene on foot. Shortly after a brief foot pursuit, HPD officers along with the help of nearby residents were able to subdue the occupants and taken them into custody without further incident.

HFD crews later arrived at the scene following the collision and later determined all parties involved were uninjured or declined further medical treatment at the scene. HPD Officers remained at the scene and continued with their investigation into the collision as well as the pursuit that ensued prior to the collision. Manono Street between East Lanikaula Street and Kekuanaoa Street was briefly closed while they continued with their investigation.

HPD officials were not immediately available for comment/provide details on the incident as the investigation is ongoing at this time.
