Fire damages a bedroom at a residence in Pauka'a, South Hilo Tuesday evening (October 20th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a residential structure fire at an address off of Kulana Street in Pauka'a in South Hilo Tuesday evening (October 20th).
The initial call came in at 6:15 pm Tuesday evening and HFD crews from the Central and Waiakea Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 and HPD officers from the South Hilo Patrol responded to the scene located at the 300 block of Kulana Street in Pauka'a.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from occupants of the residence (residence being described as a single-story single-family dwelling) reporting a fire had a broke out in the bedroom at the residence, and occupants had safely evacuated and awaited the arrival of emergency crews. They also reported black smoke was visible at the time of the report.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD crews immediately accessed the residence and found a fire in the bedroom. The fire was quickly contained and HFD crews immediately began overhaul operations shortly thereafter.
No injuries to occupants were reported.
