Hilo Information Update for September 20th, 2019

House damaged in Structure Fire in Waiakea Friday afternoon (September 20th)

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) are on scene of a Structure Fire that happened Friday afternoon (September 20th) in Waiakea.

The initial call came in just after 1:30 pm Friday afternoon and crews from the Waiakea, Central, and Kawailani Fire Stations along with Battalion 1 responded to the scene located the 500 block of Ocean View Drive in Waiakea.

Upon the arrival of HFD crews, numerous reporting parties reported black smoke was visible and could be seen throughout Hilo. HFD crews arrived on scene minutes after the initial call and found the structure fully involved and immediately worked to gain control of the fire.

Fire crews were able to have the fire under control at 1:43 pm and HFD crews are at this time working to put any hotspots and commencing with overhauling operations.
