The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) and the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a UTV (utility terrain vehicle) collision at a residence in Holualoa, North Kona Tuesday afternoon (August 4th).
The initial call came in at 4:22 pm Tuesday afternoon and HFD crews from the Kailua Fire Station along with HPD officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at the 75-5200 block of Mamalahoa Highway (Highway 180) in Holualoa.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came that a juvenile (described as a male in his teens) was operating a Polaris UTV on a property off of Mamalahoa Highway when he lost control and caused it to roll over. Bystanders had arrived at the scene and extricated the juvenile from UTV. In the course of the collision, the juvenile male suffered serious injuries and bystanders were providing basic first aid until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics immediately took over medical care of the juvenile male and later transported him to the Kona Community Hospital in serious condition.
HPD continues to investigate the incident.
