Honokaia Information Update for June 27th, 2019

Highway 19 in Honokaia is closed due to a critical motor vehicle accident early Thursday morning (June 27th)

The Hawaii Police Department (HPD) reports Highway 19 between 52-mile marker to Kapuna Road is closed to all traffic due to critical motor vehicle accident that occurred north of Camp Honokaia (Boy Scout Camp) in Hamakua.

No Detours are available and all motorist are asked to avoid the area.

Road closure is expected to be up for an undisclosed amount of time.

Preliminary details

Initial call came in just at 12:14 am Thursday morning and crews from the Honoka'a, South Kohala, and Waimea Fire Stations responded to scene located at the 48-mile marker on Highway 19 north of Camp Honokaia.

Upon the arrival of crews, witnesses reported a vehicle went off the roadway crashing into a open pasture land near the 48-mile marker on Highway 19. Reports also came in that multiple victims were in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
