The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision near Allied Quarry in Honokohau, North Kona Saturday morning (March 6th).
The initial call came in at 9:49 am Saturday morning and HFD Crews from the Makalei, Kailua, and Keauhou Fire Stations along with HPD Officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located on Allied Quarry Road approximately 100 yards above Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Honokohau, North Kona.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in that a large-sized cement truck (described as a 2017 Peterbilt Conventional Cement Truck) had rolled over on Allied Quarry Road and landed near a concrete block wall area. The operator of the cement truck (described as a male in his 20s) was reported to be pinned within the vehicle and unable to self-extricate from the truck.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD personnel immediately worked to extricate the male operator from the truck using multiple rescue tools. Once crews had the male operator extricated from the vehicle, HFD Medic personnel immediately began medical care and later transported him to the Kona Community Hospital in serious condition.
HPD continues to investigate the incident and it's unknown at this time if the cement truck was filled at the time of the incident.
