Synopsis:


An unstable weather pattern will remain over the Island of Hawaii on Saturday, bring the possibility of moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms happening in the afternoon hours (a similar occurrence happened in Hu'umula and Saddle Region Friday afternoon). A cold to the northwest of the State of Hawai'i will be moving to the east and causing a slight disruption to the trade wind flow, bring a convective type weather pattern (sea breeze with daytime heating leading to afternoon clouds and showers over interior parts of the islands, slowly clearing after sunset) to begin Sunday through Tuesday.


Winds around the Island of Hawaii will be light to variable with some breezy conditions, mainly in the North Kohala and South Kohala Districts and also in Na'alehu as well on Saturday, with some gust reaching 24 mph. Breezy conditions will slowly lighten on Saturday evening into Sunday morning, turning more light to variable winds.


East Hawaii (Includes South Hilo and Puna Districts):

  • Scattered showers with the possibility of thunderstorms throughout East Hawaii, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Saturday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions.

  • Kurtistown: Northeast up to 10 mph

  • Pāhoa: West-Northwest to Southwest up to 13 mph

  • Hilo: West-Southwest up to 8 mph

  • High ranging from 78 to 82

  • Low ranging from 62 to 68

Hāmākua Coast (North Hilo to Hāmākua Districts):

  • Scattered showers with the possibility of thunderstorms throughout Hāmākua, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Saturday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions.

  • Honoka'a: East up to 10 mph

  • Laupāhoehoe: West-Southwest up to 13 mph

  • High ranging from 75 to 79

  • Low ranging from 60 to 65

North Hawaii (North and South Kohala Districts including the Kohala Coast):

  • Mostly Sunny Skies along the Gold Coast (South Kohala Coast) and Scattered showers with the possibility of thunderstorms throughout North and South Kohala Districts, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Saturday. Some areas will see partly cloudy conditions.

  • Kamuela: Northeast up to 13 mph

  • Kapa'au: East up to 17 mph and Gust up to 24 mph

  • Kawaihae to Waikoloa Village: East up to 17 mph and Gust up to 24 mph

Kona Coast (North and South Kona Districts):

  • Will see an unstable convective weather pattern, mostly sunny skies in the morning and afternoon clouds, and scattered showers with the possibility of thunderstorms along the Kona Coast.

  • Kailua-Kona: Light to Variable and changing to West up to 8 mph

  • Hōlualoa: Light to Variable and changing to West up to 8 mph

South Hawaii (Entire District of Ka'ū):

  • Mostly Sunny Skies in Ocean View in the AM and scattered showers with the possibility of thunderstorms throughout the Ka'ū, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Saturday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions.

  • Ocean View: Light to Variable

  • Na'alehu: East up to 16 mph and Gust up to 22 mph

  • Pāhala: Southeast up to 11 mph

  • Volcano: Northeast up to 10 mph
