Here's your HIRSC - Tuesday Weather Forecast for Hawaii Island:

Synopsis:


Somewhat stable/unstable air-mass has settled over the Island of Hawaii and the threat for thunderstorms still remains in the forecast for Tuesday, however, the possibility for a pop-up thunderstorm to occur in the higher elevations is likely (particularly around Humu'ula/Saddle Regions of Maunakea, Maunaloa, and Hualālai or interior sections of Hawaii Island) in the afternoon hours. Winds around the Island of Hawaii in most areas will remain fairly light with the Laupāhoehoe, Kapa'au (includes Upolu Point to Pololu Valley), and Na'alehu areas seeing breezy conditions with gust possibly reaching up to 24 mph.


All coastal lines around Hawaii Island will see higher than normal tides (King Tides) over the next few days, which could lead to minor or nuisance coastal flooding in some areas. Related to Supermoon peaking on Tuesday night. High Tide will range from 2.31 to 2.45 feet on Tuesday afternoon.


Don't forget that the Lunar Eclipse will begin Tuesday evening at 10:55 pm and last through early Wednesday morning with the total eclipse happening at about 1:18 am lasting until 1:33 am.


East Hawaii (Includes South Hilo and Puna Districts):

  • Isolated to Scattered showers throughout East Hawaii, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Tuesday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions. 40 to 60% chance of rain for the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Island.

  • Winds

  • Kurtistown: West becoming East up to 9 mph

  • Pāhoa: West becoming East up to 9 mph

  • Hilo: West becoming East up to 8 mph

  • Temps on Tuesday

  • High ranging from 78 to 80

  • Low ranging from 61 to 68

Hāmākua Coast (North Hilo to Hāmākua Districts):

  • Isolated to Scattered showers throughout Hāmākua and North Hilo District, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Tuesday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions. 40 to 50% chance of rain for the Hāmākua Coast.

  • Winds

  • Honoka'a: South up to 11 mph

  • Laupāhoehoe: East-Southeast up to 15 mph and Gust up to 21 mph

  • Temps on Tuesday

  • High ranging from 74 to 77

  • Low ranging from 60 to 64

North Hawaii (North and South Kohala Districts including the Kohala Coast):

  • Mostly Sunny Skies in the AM and Isolated to Scattered Showers in the afternoon hours, particularly in the mauka sections of North Hawaii Region. Some areas will see partly cloudy conditions. 25 to 50% chance of rain for the North Hawaii Region of Hawaii Island.

  • Winds

  • Kamuela: Northeast up to 9 mph

  • Kapa'au: East up to 17 mph and Gust up to 24 mph

  • Puakō: East up to 8 mph

  • Waikoloa Village: East becoming West-Southwest up to 8 mph

  • Temps on Tuesday

  • High ranging from 75 to 84

  • Low ranging from 53 to 68

Saddle Region of Hawaii Island (Includes Maunakea, Pōhakuloa, Ka'ohe, and Maunaloa):

  • Mostly Sunny Skies in the AM and Isolated to Scattered Showers in the afternoon hours throughout the Saddle Region of Hawaii Island. Possibility for moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms (possibility of Hail and Frost at the higher elevations) due to unstable air mass settling over the island. Some areas will see partly cloudy conditions. 35 to 50% chance of rain for the Saddle Region of Hawaii Island.

  • Winds

  • Pōhakuloa: West becoming East up to 8 mph

  • Waiki'i: South-Southwest becoming East-Northeast up to 8 mph

  • Pu'uhuluhulu: East-Southeast up to 8 mph

  • Hale Pōhaku: West-Northwest becoming East up to 7 mph

  • Temps on Tuesday

  • High ranging from 62 to 69

  • Low ranging from 38 to 55

Kona Coast (North and South Kona Districts):

  • A more stable convective weather pattern, mostly sunny skies in the morning and afternoon clouds, and scattered showers along the Kona Coast, showers may continue into the evening hours and clear just after midnight. 20 to 45% chance of rain across the Kona Coast.

  • Kailua-Kona: East becoming West up to 9 mph

  • Hōlualoa: East becoming West up to 8 mph

  • Hōnaunau: Northeast becoming Northwest up to 7 mph

  • High ranging from 78 to 85

  • Low ranging from 63 to 70

South Hawaii (Entire District of Ka'ū):

  • Mostly Sunny Skies in the AM and scattered showers throughout the Ka'ū District, happening in the afternoon and early evening hours on Monday. Some areas will see mostly cloudy conditions. 20 to 55% chance of rain throughout the Ka'ū District.

  • Winds

  • Ocean View: North up to 7 mph

  • Na'alehu: East-Northeast up to 13 mph

  • Pāhala: East becoming North up to 9 mph

  • Volcano: Calm to East-Northeast up to 9 mph

  • Temps on Tuesday

  • High ranging from 68 to 77

  • Low ranging from 53 to 64

Coastal Flooding Statement Issued for all shorelines around Hawaii Island through Friday. (King Tides)

MINOR COASTAL FLOODING DURING HIGH TIDES TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY

Peak monthly high tides and above normal sea levels, will produce
nuisance coastal flooding. Flooding will occur around the times
of the late afternoon high tides.

* WHAT...Minor coastal flooding expected.

* WHERE...Coastal areas of all Hawaiian Islands.

* WHEN...Tuesday afternoon through late Friday night.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of beaches that are normally dry, minor
  coastal erosion, and saltwater inundation.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Avoid driving through flooded roadways. If you are forced to drive
through salt water, rinse your vehicle with fresh water. Move
electronics, vehicles or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor
vessels to ensure mooring lines don`t get too tight and watch out
for overwash around boat ramps. Secure canoes or other watercraft
stowed on beaches.
