Ka'ūpūlehu Information Update for April 5th, 2021
Fire damages a garage at a residence within the Hualalai Residential Community in Ka'ūpūlehu, North Kona late Monday morning (April 5th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a structure fire at a residence located within the Hualalai Residential Community in Ka'ūpūlehu, North Kona late Monday morning (April 5th).
The initial call came in at 11:18 am Monday morning and HFD Crews from the South Kohala, Waikoloa, and Kailua Fire Stations along with Battalion 2 and HPD Officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at the 72-200 block of Ke Alaula Street in Hualalai Residential Community in Ka'ūpūlehu, North Kona.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from nearby residents and security at Hualalai Resort reporting a vehicle fire within the garage (described as a 30'x30' unit) at a residence off of Ke Alaula Street within the Hualalai Residential Community. Black smoke was visible coming from the detached garage unit and was approximately 50-feet from the main residential structure. Private Fire Company from Hualalai Resort responded to the scene and began a defensive fire attack until emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD crews took over fire fighting operations and had the fire under control just after 11:56 am Monday morning and later declared the fire extinguished at 12:06 pm Monday afternoon. HFD crews then continued with overhaul and mop-up operations.
The fire was contained to the detached garage unit and damaging a vehicle and also golf cart located within the garage.
HFD Fire Prevention Inspectors later arrived at the scene and began their investigation into the incident.
No injuries to bystanders or firefighters were reported.
