The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Aloha Boulevard in Ocean View, Ka'u Thursday morning (August 27th).
The initial call came in at 8:56 am Thursday morning and HFD crews from the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates (HOVE) Fire Station and HPD officers from the Ka'u Patrol and Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) responded to the scene located on Aloha Boulevard above Highway 11 (Mamalahoa Highway) intersection.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in that single vehicle (described as a Black Dodge SUV) traveling at a high rate of speed had collided with a stone wall off of Aloha Boulevard and occupant of the vehicle (information was not immediately disclosed) was reported to be trapped and unresponsive at the scene. Bystanders awaited the arrival of emergency crews.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD crews immediately worked to extricate the patient from the vehicle and medics immediately began life-saving measures after being extricated. However, HFD Medics later declared the victim DOA (Dead-On-Arrival) at the scene.
HPD officers closed Aloha Boulevard between Highway 11 and Iolani Lane while TEU officers began their investigation into the collision.
HPD will release further details at a later time.
