Ka'u Information Update for September 12th, 2020

One person seriously injured following an ATV accident near Kaulana Bay Boat Ramp in Ka'u Saturday evening (September 12th).

The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) accident near the Kaulana Bay Boat Ramp in Ka'u Saturday evening (September 12th).


The initial call came in at 5:24 pm Saturday evening and HFD crews from the Na'alehu and Pahala Fire Station along with HPD officers from the Ka'u Patrol responded to the scene located in the parking lot of Kaulana Bay Boat Ramp.


Upon the arrival of emergency crews, reports came in from bystanders reporting an ATV accident had occurred in the area of the Kaulana Bay Boat Ramp parking lot and the operator of the ATV (described as a female in her 30's) was thrown from the ATV and had suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident. Bystanders at the scene provided basic medical aid until emergency crews arrived at the scene.


Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics immediately took over medical care of the female operator. HFD Medics then transported the female operator to the Hilo Medical Center in serious condition for further medical treatment.


HPD continues to investigate the incident.
