Two separate pedestrian accidents in Kailua Village sends 3 people to the hospital with serious injuries on Thursday evening (December 5th).
The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to 2 separate pedestrian accidents on Kuakini Highway in Kailua Village Thursday evening (December 5th), which sent 3 people to the hospital.
The first incident came in at 7:47 pm Thursday evening and HFD crews from the Kailua Fire Station along with HPD Kona Patrol units responded to the scene located at the 75-5600 Block of Kuakini Highway fronting Triangle Park in Kailua Village. Reports came in that male party (described to in his 40's) had stepped onto Kuakini Highway attempting to cross the roadway when struck by a vehicle. The male party reported having suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. HFD crews arrived on the scene and HFD Medic later transported the male to the Kona Community Hospital in serious condition. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
The second incident came in at 10:32 pm Thursday evening and HFD crews from the Kailua and Keauhou Fire Stations along with HPD Kona Patrol units responded to the scene located at the 75-5800 block of Kuakini Highway fronting the entrance of University of the Nations Kona Campus. Reports came in that 2 people (one described to be female and the other male both in their 20's) were struck by a vehicle on Kuakini Highway fronting University of the Nations and the vehicle had reportedly left the scene shortly after the collision heading southbound on Kuakini Highway. Both parties reported having suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision. HFD crews arrived on scene and HFD Medics transported both the male and female to Kona Community Hospital in serious condition. HPD officers conducted a search of the area for the responsible party and it's unknown at this time if the vehicle was found and any parties were taken into custody as a result of the incident.
HPD currently investigating both incidents.
