The Hawaii Fire Department (HFD) along with the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a medical emergency (apparent drowning incident) at a hotel pool in Kailua Village (North Kona) Wednesday evening (February 17th).
The initial call came in at 7:27 pm Wednesday evening and HFD crews from the Kailua Fire Station and HPD Officers from the Kona Patrol responded to the scene located at 75-5600 block of Palani Road in Kailua Village.
Upon the arrival of emergency crews, numerous reports came in reporting an unresponsive person (described as a male in his 20s) was found at the bottom of a pool at a hotel in Kailua Village and bystanders were in the process of bringing the party out and beginning life-saving measures. It was noted that a male patient may have dove into the pool and hitting the bottom of the pool, however, it's unknown if this was a factor in the incident.
Once emergency crews arrived at the scene, HFD Medics immediately took over life-saving measures and later transported the male patient to the Kona Community Hospital in extremely critical condition for further medical treatment.
HPD continues to investigate the incident.
