Road repaving work on Henry Street between Queen Kaahumanu Highway (Highway 11) and Kuakini Highway is expected to begin very soon (beginning in Late February/March 2021).
The County of Hawaii Department of Public Works (DPW) Traffic crews along with an electrical contractor are in the process of installing infrared traffic signal sensor cameras at the intersections of Queen Kaahumanu Highway, Alahou, and Kuakini Highway with Henry Street prior to the start of repaving work.
The scope of work includes the following (from Bid Request Notice):
Asphalt concrete pavement reconstruction
Traffic signal upgrades
Pavement striping
Adjusting manhole frame and covers
Adjusting utility valves and boxes
No new additional roadway or sidewalk features will be done in this project.
DPW will be working with the repaving contractor to ensure traffic impact is minimal and leaving at least one lane of traffic in both directions during the construction period.
The resurfacing work is expected to take 151 days (or 5 months) to complete.
The HIRSC - Hawaii Island Team will continue to monitor this project and provide updates on any major traffic impacts or closures that may come up associated with this project.
